May it Please the Court…Moot Madness

I presented my first oral arguments yesterday to two panels of Jones Day “Justices” at the 1L Moot Court competition. It’s a little too dorky to don a t-shirt that says “I [heart] litigation,” but wow, that was fun. With adrenaline pumping, I advocated for Respondent Kate Harper, whose Fourth Amendment rights were violated when police conducted a warrantless search by tracking her movements around the clock for 30 days with a GPS device. Don’t tell anyone, but I saved my name tag.

Semester 2 @ UCLA School of Law!

I’ve been having a blast so far this semester and taking a little extra time to nurture my passion for advocacy with some new activities. In addition to the volunteering that I’ve been doing for the VAWA (Violence Against Women’s Act) Clinic with El Centro Legal, I just jumped into another one of El Centro’s Clinics: Homelessness Prevention.

Here’s a synopsis… Venice Beach Outreach: Volunteers will join an attorney in Venice Beach to interact with the homeless. Utilizing food as an icebreaker, volunteers and the attorney will provide advice to the homeless and direct them to any resources they may find beneficial.

A bit of inspiration from Salty Beards!

Ok, so the reason I disappeared… is called UCLA Law

This post is going to be short. My other posts are long. This post is unlike my other posts because it is short. I’m at law school. Law school makes you busy. Busy people lack time for long posts. I am one such busy person. Therefore this post is short.

The Adolescent Brain

I’m revving up for another season of coaching, mentoring, and multimedia production at one of my favorite local non-profits: the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club. Lately we’ve been talking at length about the way that the adolescent brain develops. Here’s a delightfully nuanced piece from my heroes over at TAL about those quirky years and the stories they generate.
